If you’ve been by Sunset Park today, you may have noticed some significant work taking place. We wanted to let our community know what’s happening and, most importantly, why.
There is a drainage pipe that runs underneath the park. The drainage system itself is owned by the Town of North Hempstead, and unfortunately, the pipe has experienced several collapses over the years.
Most recently, a section of the pipe collapsed and created a large hole in the park. We immediately recognized this as a serious safety hazard and took action to get the situation addressed.
Bancker Construction is currently on-site repairing the drainage pipe and addressing the underlying problem. The goal is to properly repair the damaged section and help prevent future collapses and sinkholes from occurring in the park.
We know construction can be disruptive and may raise questions, so we wanted to keep our residents informed about the work taking place.
We appreciate everyone’s patience while this important safety repair is completed. Our goal is to keep Sunset Park safe, accessible, and enjoyable for our entire community!
