Port Washington Water Pollution Control District is pleased to announce that it was awarded $5,856,000.00 under the Water Quality Improvement Project (WQIP) grant program, one of 187 projects to improve water quality across the state.
Efforts have been made in applying for various grants in order to rehabilitate our aging infrastructure. This grant will help alleviate the tax burden on the District’s taxpayers. This program is a competitive, reimbursement grant program that funds projects that directly improve water quality or aquatic habitats, promote flood risk reduction, restoration, and enhanced flood and climate resiliency, or protect a drinking water source. With funding from this award, the District will rehabilitate approximately 16,000 linear feet of gravity sewer main within its collection system to reduce sanitary sewer overflows. This project will help protect the water quality in Manhasset Bay and improve the integrity of the District’s sanitary collection system.
